How do I change new-message alerts in Webmail?

Webmail can offer browser, desktop and sound alerts for new messages. These mailbox preferences are separate from Account notification emails.

Before you start

Sign in to the intended mailbox and use a browser and device where those alerts are appropriate.

What to do

  1. Open Settings, Preferences and Mailbox View. Review the offered new-message notification options.
  2. Choose only the basic, desktop or sound alerts you want. Use the adjacent Test action when offered to check the selected type before saving.
  3. If you choose desktop notifications, review any browser permission prompt yourself. A browser’s blocked permission or unsupported notification feature can prevent alerts even when the mailbox preference is enabled.
  4. Save the intended preferences and check their behaviour while Webmail is open. Review the browser’s site notification controls if you later want to revoke its permission.

What happens next

Webmail uses the accepted alert preferences within the capabilities and permissions of that browser. It does not subscribe you to Yasa marketing or change Account’s notification preferences.

If something goes wrong

Do not rely on an alert as the only proof that mail arrived, or assume it works while the browser is closed. Check the mailbox and browser restrictions when a test fails. Alerts and sound may be suppressed by device settings; ask the mailbox administrator if the expected preference is unavailable.
